Nicki Minaj to Feature as Playable Character in Call of Duty
Activision has revealed that Nicki Minaj will be making history as the inaugural female celebrity “Operator” playable character in Call of Duty Season 5. As part of the “50 Years of Hip Hop Celebration,” she will join the ranks of Snoop Dogg and 21 Savage in Warzone and Modern Warfare 2.
Other celebrities such as Lionel Messi, Kevin Durant and Snoop Dogg (several times now) have appeared on CoD in the past. However, Minaj is “Call of Duty’s first female operator”, as stated by the developer. “Game time is over; this ain’t ‘Chill Nicki,’ this is Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” it added, referring to Minaj’s song and video released earlier this year.
Minaj will appear and have her own storefront later in Season 5, likely selling the hot pink rifle pictured above. Minaj’s appearance was featured in a YouTube video called Squad Up last year, which also featured Lil Baby, Bukayo Saka, and Pete Davidson — though there’s no word if those folks will also appear in CoD at some point.
The Season 5 site also has information on the 9mm ISO submachine gun, the AN-94 assault rifle, and other weapons. CoD also previewed multiplayer additions such as new maps for Livestock and the Petrov Oil Rig. Meanwhile, Warzone 2.0 adds new locations such as Verdansk Stadium. Season 5 also includes the reveal of the upcoming Call of Duty 2023 (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3) — in Warzone. Season 05 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Call of Duty: Warzone will be released on 2 August at 9 a.m. PT on all platforms.
